Architectural
monuments have always played a significant role
in marking the progress of history. Take the examples
of the Coliseum of Rome, the Leaning Tower of
Pisa and our very own Taj Mahal.
In
an endeavour to encourage young architects to
push the boundaries of design and creativity,
Birla White a leader in the white cement
industry has been presenting a platform
for the creative genius. Aimed at architectural
colleges across the country, Birla White has pioneered
a design contest in search for talent in design
excellence. This year's Birla White Yuva Ratna
Awards called for design entries in two categories
Designer Flooring and GRC (Glass Fibre
Reinforced Concrete).
Instituted
in 2004, Birla White Yuva Ratna Awards is catalytic
in providing an opportunity to aspiring and talented
architects and designers to unleash their potential
by designing outstanding designer floor designs
and GRC patterns. The awards are the conduit for
creating new trends and ushering in a new age
with limitless options. Birla White received an
overwhelming response this year. In all, there
were 1054 entries from 34 colleges spread across
nine states. Among the various path-breaking entries
presented, an artist has worked out an entire
concept for facilitating the movements of the
visually impaired.
At
the recently held Birla White Yuva Ratna Awards
function, Birla White felicitated 21 aspiring
students from different states. The Chief Guest
was Mrs. Rajashree Birla, Chairperson of the Aditya
Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural
Development. Says Mrs. Birla, "The range
of eclectic designs have been most impressive.
It is a tribute to the innovative and creative
spirit of the youngsters."

J Batliboi, Mr. Ravi Sarangan and Design Director
of FCB ULKA, Mr. Ravindra Madkaikar.
A
tribute to the budding architect
In the Designer Flooring category, there were
two all-India level prizes and seven first and
second prizes at the state level. In the GRC category,
two all-India prizes and three zonal-level prizes
were announced. Twenty-six consolation prizes
were also announced. The winners
received a trophy, certificate and cash reward.
A certificate and token gift were also presented
to all the participants.
This
contest gave the architects of tomorrow an opportunity
to come up with innovative ideas and creative
designs using Birla While cement and GRC. Birla
White is a medium for architects to translate
their dreams to reality. The design possibilities
with white cement and GRC are endless. Be it flooring
or walls or landscaping, Birla White lends a touch
of elegance and beauty to living spaces. Birla
White has developed in-house, several designs
and patterns using white cement and GRC.
The
future is all about a competitive context that
is different a context that needs to be
understood carefully before planning a foray that
is complex. The Birla White Yuva Ratna Awards
are a befitting tribute to the budding artists
who are eager to unleash their creative energy
to create the impossible. All these with a heavy
dose of imagination and a touch of fun leveraged
by modern technology.
