Miyawaki Forest – Making Mother Earth Greener

Grasim Industries Limited Vilayat Bharuch is creating "Grasim Van and Miyawaki Forest" outside the factory grounds to make Mother Earth greener. At two locations, more than 68000 trees have already been planted, and we aim to reach 1 lakh trees before the monsoon. More than 80 different species of trees, bushes, and small plants, were planted using the Miyawaki forest concept over an area of 2 acres.

One of the finest methods for swiftly developing a forest cover on degraded land that has previously been used for construction or agriculture is the Miyawaki forest method. This is an effective method for swiftly producing mini-forests that is based on the approach created by Japanese forester and botanist Akira Miyawaki, a specialist in researching natural forests and reintroducing their native species.

The Miyawaki technique involves planting a variety of locally accessible native kinds of plants close together so that the greens receive only top-side sunlight and develop vertically rather than sideways. The four tiers of the identified native species in the area are shrub, subtree, tree, and canopy. As a result, after three years the plantation becomes maintenance-free, grows 10 times quicker, and is about 30 times denser.

It has some significant advantages over more traditional methods of forest plantation. Urban environments are when it shines. Miyawaki-developed forest areas have been discovered to have more biodiversity and are proven to collect more carbon emissions than traditional forests. Improved biodiversity, carbon sequestration, increased green cover, decreased air pollution, and water table preservation are among the objectives of a Miyawaki approach.
